ABOUT ME

Picture
Originally starting with the blog Dragons, Zombies and Aliens, I've since branched out in my speculative fiction writing. (For the uninitiated: "speculative fiction" is an umbrella term for fantasy, science fiction, horror, paranormal, supernatural, superhero, etc. Basically, it's all the fun stuff.)

In addition to reviews, I've published several short stories, articles and novellas for both adult and teen audiences. All of my writing is done through a feminist/social justice lens. No damsels in distress. No stereotyped people of color acting as comic relief. No unnecessary romantic subplot that does nothing for the story except reduce the woman lead into a sex object. My goal is to change the landscape of speculative fiction writing and media entirely.

And I'm not the only one. There are several books, movies, and shows that already do this. They're just hard to find, thanks to being buried by all the cheap mainstream crap we're all sick of. That's why I re-started the blog and ventured onto YouTube, so I could find and share these incredible stories and writers.

But I can't do it alone. So if you know any good books I've missed or movies that you think everyone must see, share it! Post it on my Facebook page, hit me up on Twitter or Google+, or just send me an email.

Read the new epic fantasy graphic novel series Sovadron!

Lt. Shakairra Romazi isn’t sure who will kill her first: the enemy’s soldiers, or her own.

Her money is on the latter.

After barely surviving their country’s last war, Shakairra and her soldiers are pulled into another. Goblins have been kidnapping citizens and selling them into slavery. But when a foreign noble arrives to investigate the death of his sister, Shakairra learns that the greater threat is within her own ranks.

As the body count climbs and her allies diminish, Shakairra must place her trust--never in abundant supply--into four strangers to save her country. But they soon realize this conflict is greater than that. And before this is over, even the blood of gods will be spilled.

Sovadron is a graphic novel series, written by me and illustrated by John Hawkins. It's a grimdark fantasy set in a world based off of post-colonial America. It features fiery demons, intense action, and a cast of diverse characters.

Originally we were going to publish one chapter at a time. But due to budget constraints, we have to do this a few pages at a time. If you're like me--burning with impatience and want this to go faster--then please become a patron on Patreon. Just a few dollars a month can make a world of difference.
You can also sign up for email updates specific to Sovadron. This includes sneak peaks, release info, and free giveaways delivered straight to your inbox. Click here to get in on the action!

A lesbian angel hunts demons during the apocalypse. Disney lied about what mermaids actually look like and how well they (don't) sing. An ambitious gecko plays matchmaker.

"Gary the Gecko's Guide to Getting Your Humans to Get Together, and Other Short Stories" is a collection of Christina "DZA" Marie's funniest, most heart-warming, and best short stories and flash fics. Enjoy crazy tales of heartwarming ghosts, rick-rolling goblins, and summer camp witches.

"Join the DFMC, they said. It'll be fun, they said. They left out the part where I get impaled by unicorns, shot by wannabe witches, and buried under twenty feet of snow."

Nate Johnson is the rookie agent at the Department of Fae and Magical Creatures (DFMC), an underground agency dedicated to keeping the Fae world and the mortal world separate.

After almost getting killed and eaten alive by a unicorn ("I didn't realize that I technically counted as a virgin, okay?!"), Nate and his legendary partner Agent Arnold Grant are sent to Minnesota. Half a dozen people have gone missing, and the suspect is the mysterious, reclusive Black Witch. But not all as is it appears, and by the time Nate manages to dig himself out of the Minnesota snow, everything he thought he knew about the two worlds will be turned upside-down.

Join Nate on his adventure with "The Minnesotan Witch!"
